Emilia Bark in her studio with the Ljushuvuden series

Studio, Gotland · with the Ljushuvuden series

About

Strange, tender, faintly absurd.

Emilia Bark is a ceramic sculptor and artist from Sweden, living on the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea, where she works from her studio.

Her work has been featured in prestigious exhibitions and galleries across the country, including the renowned Liljevalchs Vårsalong — an exhibition showcasing the finest emerging Swedish artists and designers.

Art runs in Emilia's family. She comes from a long line of artists, ceramicists, sculptors, illustrators and designers — including her great aunt, a teacher and mentor to Emilia, who has been making ceramics for over 60 years and continues to work actively at the age of 89.

She has studied at prominent art schools in Sweden and Norway, including Nyckelviken and KHiO, the Oslo National Academy of the Arts.

On the series Ljushuvuden: ljushuvud — "bright head" — is a Swedish expression for a clever person. It can also be used sarcastically. But the intellect of these guys can hardly be questioned, given their choice of shades and glasses.
